Box Score MURFREESBORO, NC- The Chowan University men's basketball team suffered a 97-91 overtime setback on Saturday evening in their season home opener against the Apprentice School. The Hawks start their season 0-1 while the Builders improve to 3-0.
Ashante Ross led the Hawks with 20 points in the contest while
Dominique Terry and
Phoenix Butler-Poole added 14 apiece. Jamaal Curry from the Apprentice School led all players in the contest with 26 points.
The Hawks closed out the first half with a narrow 38-36 advantage. Chowan maintained a comfortable lead until the last three minutes of the second half. The Hawks led 74-68at the 3:33 mark, but the Builders chipped away at the deficit before knotting the game 77-77 with 12 seconds on the clock after a laypup by Johnnie Ferebee to send the contest into overtime. .
Chowan suffered a scoring drought in overtime. The Builders led by as many as 12 points with 48 seconds left before
Tiron Brown drained a three pointer to make the score 92-83. Apprentice closed out the contest with the 97-91 victory.
The Hawks travel to Greensboro, NC on Sunday to take on UNC-Greensboro in an exhibition contest. Tip-off is slated for 2:00pm.
