MURFREESBORO - After a summer long wait, the Chowan University football team officially began work for the 2010 playing season today. Head Coach
Tim Place and his coaching staff are tasked with prepping the 120-man squad for another tough playing season in the CIAA in just three weeks time. After two days of processing on campus, Place finally had a chance to see his young men in action today with early morning fitness testing. They will return to the field tonight for a helmets-only practice session.
"Its refreshing to see the commitment in some of these young men," said Place. "Many of our young men really took their summer workouts seriously and that will pay off this preseason."
"We are improving our talent level each season, but we still have a lot of work to do," continued Place. The Hawks will have to replace last year's CIAA Offensive Player of the Year in CJ Westler as well All-CIAA Offensive Lineman Melvin Rogers. "We have some great talent in some key positions, but we also have to fill some holes. We hope to get that sorted out over the next three weeks."
The Hawks will have three weeks to get ready for their 2010 season opener at Lenoir-Rhyne University. For a complete schedule,
