Nelson, Morrison Headline NCCAA All South Region Teams

Nelson Named NCCAA All-American for 3rd Straight Season
MURFREESBORO - Chowan men's basketball players Jaleel Nelson and Lando Morrison headline this year's NCCAA All South Region Team after helping the Hawks to an 18-10 overall record and 2nd place CIAA West finish. Sophomore Mark Brown was named All South Region Honorable Mention after posting more than 14 points an outing. Nelson and Morrison also earned spots on the NCCAA All-American Team. This is Nelson's third straight season on the NCCAA All-American squad. 

In only their first season playing in basketball storied CIAA, senior men's basketball players Jaleel Nelson and Lando Morrison left  their marks both on the floor and in the hearts and minds of tournament attendees who had the opportunity to speak with these young men.  After earning All-CIAA honors heading into the tournament, both players posted big numbers to help them advance to semi-final action. They also earned a spot on the 2010 CIAA All-Tournament team after accounting for 76 of their teams' total points over two games. 

Lando Morrrison scored 42 points over two games, leading the way for Chowan in both games. Heading into the tournament he was 15th in the league in scoring. He posted 24 points in a 74-46 win over defending CIAA Champs, Johnson C. Smith, to open the tournament. He followed that up with a team-high 18 points in their season ending loss to the eventual 2010 Champions in Saint Augustines College. He was named his team's MVP in both games by CIAA sponsors, the United States Marine Corp and Food Lion. 

Jaleel Nelson proved he could hang in a league full of dominant guard play after averaging 18 points a game, second best in the league. He scored 18 points in the Hawks win over Johnson C. Smith and 17 points in their loss to the Falcons in semi-final action.
