PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA - The golf team finished up in second place today after turning in 355 team strokes in day one of the Elizabeth City Classic. Today's round was played at Bid-a-Wee Golf Club in Portsmouth while tomorrow's second day action will be played in Elizabeth City at the Pines Country Club. Virginia State University finished the day in first place with 309 strokes while Elizabeth City State finished third with 376 strokes and Virginia Union wrapped up in fourth place with 386 strokes.
Cliff Forbes shot a team-best 81 despite the frigid temperatures. Michael Edwards broke 90 for the first time in three seasons of collegiate matches after he turned in a career-best 82. James Pardo shot a 93 while John Riddick finished up with a 99.
The Hawks will tee off tomorrow morning at 10:00am at the Pines Country Club in Elizabeth City to wrap up the two-day tournament.
