Box Score MURFREESBORO- The Chowan University volleyball team earned their fifth straight win on Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 victory over the Southern Virginia University Knights.  The Hawks improve to 6-3 on the season after Saturday's contest while the Knights drop to 3-10 on the year. 

Chowan grabbed the first set 25-19 before clipping the Knights 25-22 in set two and claiming the third set 25-20. 

Ashley Tutherow led the Hawks with 10 kills in the win followed by Suraya Chase with nine kills.  Lindsey Denne dished out a team-high 13 assists while Cindy Ehirch and Brianna Smith hauled in 16 and 12 digs, respectively.

Allison Tiegs led the effort for the Knights with 11 kills.  Kadyn Smith tallied 14 assists while Delaney Layton and Hannah Phillips both grabbed double-digit digs for Southern Virginia. 

The Hawks grabbed the first two points in set two before a 4-0 run left Chowan trailing 4-2.  With the Hawks trailing 7-5, a kill by Tutherow sparked a 5-0 run and left the Knights trailing 10-7.  The Hawks maintained the lead for the remainder of the set before clinching the 25-19 with a kill by Tutherow. 

The Hawks kept the momentum going in the second set after taking advantage of two Knights' errors and a kill by Michelle Seiler.  Late in the set, the Knights battled back to tie the score 21-21.  Chowan held on and regained the advantage with Smith's service ace and a kill by Chase.  The Knights would score one more point before a kill by Spencer and an error by the Knights secured the 25-22 win in the second set.

Chowan once again grabbed an early lead in the third set and maintained a firm grip on the momentum of the match.  The Hawks surrendered the advantage just once in the set and easily earned the 25-20 victory. 

Chowan returns to CIAA Northern Division play on Sunday when the Hawks host Bowie State University.  First serve is slated for 1:00pm.
