Hawks Drop Two at Shaw University Softball Challenge

Leigh Ward had two hits and scored two runs against Lock Haven on Saturday.
Box Score RALEIGH, NC- The Chowan University softball team finished the first day of play 0-2 at the Shaw University Softball Challenge.  The Hawks fell to Lock Haven University 3-2 in their first game of the day and dropped an 11-9 decision to Indiana University of Pennsylvania. 
 
The Hawks struck first in their opening game against Lock Haven.  Leigh Ward singled and eventually scored when Courtney Baker reached on an error in the first inning of play.  A Chowan error in the bottom of the fourth allowed the Lady Eagles to pull ahead 2-1, and an RBI single by Lock Haven in the next inning made the score 3-1.
 
Ward scored on a bunt single by Kayla Brady making the score 3-2 in the top of the sixth, but the Hawks were unable to overcome the deficit and suffered the loss.   Alora Lincoln took the loss on the mound for Chowan.  She surrendered one earned run off eight hits while striking out three Lady Eagle batters.  Jessie Probst earned the win for Lock Haven.  She held the Hawks to five hits and one earned run while striking out five. 
 
Ward finished the game 2-2 at the plate with two runs scored.  Brady, Baker, and Leighanne Huggins garnered base hit knocks in the setback.  Michelle Holweger and Erica Pooler each had two hits for Lock Haven. 
 
Chowan fell to Indiana University of Pennsylvania 11-9 in the nightcap. Statistics were not available at the time of this release.  Check back to www.gocuhawks.com as results become available. 
 
Weather played havoc with the scheduled games on Saturday and has made Sunday's final schedule difficult to predict.  The Hawks are scheduled to play three games on Sunday, beginning at 9:00am.
