MURFREESBORO, NC- CLICK HERE FOR PHOTO GALLERY The Chowan University baseball team improved to 15-25 on the season and 7-7 in CIAA play after grabbing two wins in a twin bill against Shaw University on Saturday afternoon.

Saturday was Senior Day for Brandon Mack, Justin Shockley, and William Ward.  The trio of seniors was recognized prior to the first pitch of Saturday's first game.

The Hawks had the bases loaded in the bottom of the first after a two out double from Justin Shockley, a walk by John Hunter, and Josh Catalano's single.  Chowan was unable to capitalize on the situation, and failed to score in the frame.
William Ward laced a double down the left field line to start of the home half of the third.  Brandon Mack hit a single to right center to score Ward, putting the Hawks on the board.  Mack used a sacrifice bunt followed by a Shaw throwing error to score Ward again in the bottom of the fifth to push Chowan's lead to 2-0.

Both teams failed to score for the remainder of the contest, allowing the Hawks to earn the 2-0 win.

Ryan Moore held Shaw at-bay, throwing all seven innings on the mound in the four-hit shutout win.  He tallied 10 strikeouts in the victory.   Five Hawks combined for seven hits in the first game.  Ward was 2-3 on the afternoon with two runs scored.  Mack, Shockley, Catalano, Drew Mason and Colby Wiggins each collected hits in the contest.
James Jones earned the loss on the mound for Shaw in the first game.

Shaw took an early lead in game two, after James Edwards scored on Americus Williams' RBI single, giving the Bears a 1-0 advantage.

The Hawks quickly answered back in the bottom half of the frame, stringing together three hits in the inning to push three runs across.  Anthony Waldner singled in his first at-bat, followed by Moore's base knock. Shockley drew a walk to load the bases for Evan Seymour, who followed suit with a bases loaded walk to knot the game 1-1.  Colby Wiggins allowed the Hawks to pull ahead 2-1 after hitting an RBI single to left field.  Drew Mason hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Shockley, to make the score 3-1 after the first inning.

The Bears moved within one run in the top of the fifth when James Jones scored on a groundout by Jerrell Harvey.
In the bottom of the fifth, Moore walked and later scored on an error by the Bears to give the Hawks a 4-2 cushion.  The Hawks scored again in bottom of the sixth after Waldner's infield single scored Ward, and they tacked on two more after Moore's two run double allowed Catalano and Waldner to score and give the Hawks a 7-2 lead.

That would be all Chowan needed to grab the 7-2 victory.  Waldenr finished the nightcap 3-4, and Moore went 2-3 with two RBI in the win.

Lance Weatherly took the loss on the mound for Shaw, while George Mazza earned the win for Chowan.  Mazza tossed seven innings in the nightcap, and gave up four hits in the victory.

The Hawks will complete the series with the Bears on Sunday at 1:00pm in a nine inning game at Hawkins Field.
