PETERSBURG, VA- The Chowan University baseball team dropped a 4-2 decision on the road on Monday afternoon against Virginia State University in CIAA play.
The Trojans got on the board first in the contest when Nick Christopher scored on a sacrifice fly in the home half of the first inning. Chowan answered back in their next at-bat.
Brandon Mack led off the inning with a walk, followed by a base hit from CIAA Player of the Week
Josh Catalano.
Drew Mason's sacrifice bunt allowed both runners to advance. Mack knotted the game 1-1 when he stole home for the Hawks' first run of the game.
John Hunter followed up with an RBI single to give Chowan a 2-1 advantage.
In the home half of the third, JohnMcCarty knocked in a run with a base hit to even the score 2-2. The Trojans scored in the bottom of the seventh and eighth respectively to earn the 4-2 victory.
Evan Hart took the loss for the Hawks on the mound. He tossed seven innings in the decision, while giving up six hits, one walk, and one earned run.
David Fitzgerald threw a complete game for the Trojans to earn the win. Please note that complete statistics were not available at the time of this release.
After Monday's loss the Hawks fall to 13-25 on the season and 5-7 in the CIAA. They will take the field again this weekend in a three game series against Shaw University. First pitch on Saturday and Sunday is slated for 12:00pm.
