KING, NC- The Chowan University baseball team dropped a 13-4 decision on Friday afternoon against Concord College in the opening game of the CIAA/WVIAC Challenge.

Josh Catalano led the Hawks offensively, going 3-5 on the afternoon with a home run and an RBI.  Drew Mason and Tyler Burden each went 2-4 at the plate for Chowan.  Evan Hart took the loss on the mound.

Concord College scored first in the contest after a solo homerun to left gave the Mountain Lions a 1-0 lead.  Concord exploded for a 10 run third inning with a combination of hits and Hawk errors.  The Hawks answered back in the top of the fourth after Mason's RBI double to right field allowed Evan Holton to score.  Catalano led off the top of the sixth inning with a solo home run to right field to make the score 11-2.

Chowan scored again in the top of the sixth after a bases loaded walk, and once more in the eighth, but the damage was done.  The Mountains Lions moved to 2-3 on the season after the 13-4 victory over the Hawks.  Chowan returns to action on Saturday to take on West Liberty University and Fairmont State University.  The Hawks head into Saturday's contests with a 2-10 overall record.
