FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The Chowan University volleyball team dropped a 3-2 decision Saturday at the hands of Fayetteville State University.  Saturday's loss marks the first CIAA loss of the 2012 season for the Hawks.  

Monica Ruffin tallied 16 kills in the loss.  Nikira Fults wasn't far behind with 14 kills in the match. Callie Armistead had another solid game for the Hawks, collecting 47 assists.  Cindy Ehrich had 25 digs in the contest.

Attack errors got the best of the Hawks in the first set.  The Hawks committed 14 errors allowing the Lady Broncos to cruise to a 25-18 victory over Chowan.  Chowan took rallied back to take the second set 25-20 thanks to some key kills from Fults, Ruffin and Karina Monroe.  

Chowan took the momentum heading into the third set en route to a  25-23 win.  Down 13-11, the Hawks rallied to score seven straight points to take a 18-13 lead, and put the Lady Broncos away after Monroe and Ruffin teamed up to propel the Hawks to the victory.

Fayetteville claimed the fourth set 25-17moving on to take the match after winning the fifth and final set 15-11.   The Hawks return to action on Sunday to take on Shaw University at 9:00am.
