MURFREESBORO, NC- The Chowan University volleyball team picked up another CIAA win on Sunday afternoon against Bowie State University.
Karina Monroe paced the Hawks with 14 kills in the match, along with
Nikira Fults who tallied 13 in the win.
Callie Armistead collected 27 assists to lead Chowan to a 3-0 win over the Lady Bulldogs.
Cindy Ehrich was consistent in the back row for the Hawks as she collected 12 digs.
Chowan easily handled Bowie State on Sunday afternoon cruising to a three set sweep over Bowie State. The Hawks jumped to a quick 5-0 lead in the first set after a combination of service aces and attack errors along with a kill by
Nikira Fults. The Lady Bulldogs rallied back to get within three points of the Hawks, but consecutive kills from
Karina Monroe swung the momentum back in favor of the Hawks en route to a seven point run. Chowan led the entire first set and easily earned the 25-9 victory.
The second set was much like the first with Chowan quickly taking the lead. The highlight of the second set was an 11 point run by the Hawks sparked by a kill by
Karina Monroe to earn the serve back from the Lady Bulldogs. Chowan used the momentum to win the second set 25-8.
Although Bowie won the first point in the third set, the Hawks fought right back to regain the serve. Once Chowan had the lead, they never looked back, earning a quick 25-15 win over the Lady Bulldogs.
After Sunday's win, the Hawks improve to 12-5 overall and 10-1 in league play. The Bulldogs fall to 3-17 on the year, and 1-10 in league play. The Hawks return to action on Monday to host Lincoln University (PA) in a CIAA Northern Division match-up. Match time is set for 6:00pm.
