MURFREESBORO - Chowan University's Head Softball Coach Mandi Balduf announced today that two student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to attend Chowan and play softball. One signee hails from Pennsylvania while the other is from nearby Virginia.

Kayla Brady will come to Chowan in the Fall of 2010 from Abington Heights, Pennsylvania. She has playing experience on both the high school and club levels and most recently competed for the always competitive Sports Plus team under the direction of Milton Simmons. Kayla is versatile and can play infield and outfield.

"We are fortunate to have come across a solid athlete and student like Kayla," stated Balduf. "Kayla will make an immediate impact on both sides of the game. We anticipate her infectious work ethic to take Chowan softball to the next level."

Also signing an early NLI is Elizabeth Hipple. Hipple will also check in next Fall from Chincoteague, Virginia. Balduf is excited to add an explosive hitter and all around defensive player to her roster for next season.

"Liz has a thirst for the game that will make her transition to the college level smooth and immediate," said Balduf.

Hipple can play both first base and outfield, something that Balduf looks for in student-athletes. "She is patient and explosive at the plate while her footwork allows her to work well around first base and get good jumps while she is in the outfield."

Balduf and the Hawks are gearing up for the upcoming 2010 season after a spectacular 2009 season. They will begin competition in February.
