SUFFOLK, VA - The Chowan University golf team placed first place at the Newport News Apprentice School Builder Fall Invitational this afternoon hosted at Sleepy Hole Golf Club. The team turned in 320 strokes, 11 better than host-team Newport News Apprentice and 23 strokes better than 3rd place team Virginia Wesleyan College. Sophomore Cliff Forbes took home medalist honors after shooting the low round at 74, two over par.
Teammate Corey Garvey finished in second place with a 75, 3 over par while Calvin Wyrick placed 6th with a 83. Austin Smith finished up with an 88 and Michael Edwards shot a 96 on the day.
Newport News Apprentice finished second after wrapping up 18 holes with 331 strokes. Virginia Wesleyan University finished 3rd with 343 strokes and Apprentice's B Team finished in fourth place with 391 strokes.
