Balduf Attends NCAA Women's Coaching Academy in Atlanta

MURFREESBORO - Just a month after leading her squad to a DII program-high 30 wins, Chowan University's softball coach Mandi Balduf was selected to attend the NCAA's Women's Coaching Academy in Atlanta.

Since 2002 the NCAA Committee on Women's Coaching has found it imperative to help educate and retain women coaches in the NCAA ranks.

The WCA is designed to give coaches the opportunity to understand their expanding role as a coach, along with perspectives and skills to help them make the most of their situation. In the company and understanding of other coaches, they have the opportunity to talk and listen with others to gain support and learn new tools and strategies.

Balduf was one of 42 coaches nationwide to attend the all expense paid academy. "The WCA provided the opportunity for personal and professional development for all NCAA division and sports programs. I had the honor of meeting and working alongside some of the most dynamic individuals in the athletic arena," stated Balduf. "My week in Atlanta at the WCA reaffirmed my love for the game of softball and coaching."

Balduf gained knowledge is various facets of coaching and working in college athletics but found an interest in the women's plight for equality in athletics and Title IX. "It was important to know the past, so that I can make the best of the present and create further opportunities for my players in the future," said Balduf.

The WCA featured some of the best known Title IX advocates in the nation in presenters Linda Carpenter and Charlotte West.
