Softball Wraps Up Season with Several Individual Honors

MURFREESBORO- A few days after the Hawks finished their 2009 campaign; several individual honors were given to multiple Hawks. Senior Shellie Wimpey and Sophomore Brooke Owen were named NCCAA Honorable Mention All-Americans while Sophomore Tricia Gorman and Freshman Allie Kolezynksi were named NCCAA All-Americans. Kolezynksi also earned NCCAA National All-Tournament Team.

Wimpey finished her stellar career as a Hawk with four career no-hitters while amassing over 100 strikeouts in three consecutive seasons. She shattered the single-season strikeout record this season after setting the record herself last season. Wimpey finished her career with 39 wins including 17 from this past season.

Owen completed her second season after joining the Hawks last year from Pasadena, MD. The Maryland native improved in various batting categories under Head Coach Mandi Balduf. This season, Owen batted over .325 while second on the team in stolen bases.

Gorman finished hitting over .300 while leading the team in runs-batted in (RBIs). The Pennsylvania slugger had numerous clutch performances including the game-winning two-RBI double against Limestone College back in March.

Kolezynski helped Chowan win 30 games in her first season. Kolezynski lead the Hawks in several offensive categories including batting average and stolen bases while picking up 13 wins as a pitcher.

The Hawks finished the season 30-23 overall.
