Women's Tennis Picks Up Road Win Over Firebirds

WASHINGTON, D.C.- The women's tennis team defeated the Firebirds of the University of District of Columbia by the final match score of 6-3. Chowan picked up two points by default in the match. The Hawks improved to 4-7 on the year.

After taking a 2-1 lead into doubles play, the Hawks withstood a comeback from UDC. Kashae Beverly represented the #1 seed but fell to Jennifer Solis in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. Amanda Spaudling anchored the #2 seed for the Hawks but fell to Patricia Ofori, 6-0, 6-1. Tara Lunney, Melinda Williams, and Jennifer Mitchell were the #3, #4, and #5 seeds, respectively. Lunney defeated Chantel Henry in straight sets by the final score, 6-0, 6-0. Williams picked up a win over Lisa Foster, 6-0, 6-4. Mitchell outlasted Shakira Watford by the final score of 6-2, 6-3.

The Hawks will play the Trojans of Virginia State on the road, April 8th. Match is set for 2:00pm. The next day, the Hawks will play their final home match of the season against Shaw University. Match begins 2:00pm.
