Box Score 2 MISENHEIMER, NC - The softball team split a doubleheader at defending Carolinas Conference Conference member Pfeiffer University this afternoon. The Hawks dropped a tough loss in the opening game after losing 2-1 but bounced back to take the nightcap 11-7. The Hawks used a nine run 4th inning to help propel them to the nightcap victory.
The Falcons used a run in the bottom of the 6th inning to bust open a 1-1 tie and take the eventual 2-1 win over the Hawks. Shellie Wimpey suffered the loss, giving up two runs, one of which was earned, while also striking out six Falcon batters. The Hawks were held to five hits in the game with Mindy Byrd getting the only multiple hit game. Byrd finished 2-4 with a run scored while Allie Hunka was 1-2 and accounted for the Hawks run when she knocked in Byrd in the top of the 3rd inning.
The Hawks bounced back with an 11-7 win in the second game. The Hawks scored nine runs in the fourth inning to jump out to an early lead over the Falcons. Allie Kolezynski and the Hawks' defense held off a late scoring surge by the Falcons. Kolezynski picked up her second win of the season on the mound.
Chowan improves their overall record to 3-1 after today's split. They will travel to Fayetteville State University to play the Broncos in a doubleheader tomorrow. First pitch is set for 2:00pm in that game.
