HAMPTON, VA - The CIAA released today the 2009 All-CIAA Football Team as voted on by the CIAA Football Coaches Association. Five Chowan players earned spots on both the first and second teams. CJ Westler, Melvin Rogers, and
Robert Holland were named to the All-CIAA First Team while Greg Palmer and
Kevin Hodrick were named to the All-CIAA Second Team.
CJ Westler was named the CIAA Offensive Player of the Year earlier today and also earned a spot as the top quarterback in the league. Westler led the CIAA in passing and total offense through ten games this season. He passed for 2,856 yards and 25 touchdowns this season.
Melvin Rogers was named to the All-CIAA First Team and helped to anchor the offensive line this season. He started in all ten games at guard. He helped the Hawks gain an average of 386 yards of total offense this season. He was also named CIAA Offensive Lineman of the Week once this season.
Robert Holland led the CIAA in receiving through ten games this season, amassing 1,078 yards on 86 catches. Holland had a record setting day against Shaw University with 18 catches for 221 yards earlier this season. He earned four CIAA weekly honors this year. Holland earned a spot on the All-CIAA Rookie Team and the All-CIAA First Team for his performance this season.
Greg Palmer is a repeat on the All-CIAA Second Team as a defensive lineman. The senior earned a spot on the team last season after leading the team in sacks. This year Palmer had 53.5 tackles, second on the team, 8.5 tackles for a loss and 3.5 sacks. He also forced two fumbles in his final season wearing the Chowan Blue and White.

Kevin Hodrick was named to the All-CIAA Second Team as a wide receiver. He caught a team-high 10 touchdowns this season and was second on the team in receptions with 49 and total yards with 612. Hodrick was named CIAA Wide Receiver of the Week two times this season.
The Hawks wrapped up the season in 4th place in the CIAA Western Division at 2-8 and 2-5.
