Box Score FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA - Chowan edged Palm Beach Atlantic 12-9 in the loser bracket finals of the NCCAA South Region Tournament this afternoon. The win moves the Hawks into the Championship game tomorrow afternoon against unbeaten Emmanuel College.
Tonight's win ousted the #3 seeded Sailfish from the tournament . Chris Nelson pitched five innings for the win on the mound, his 7th of the season. After picking up last night's win in relief and hitting the game-winning homerun, senior Brandon Hamlett came in to throw the final 1 2/3 innings to ice the game and notch his 5th save of the season.
Justin Hollingsworth and PJ Sadler were perfect at the plate going 4-4 and 3-3 respectively. Sadler had three RBI and a two-run homer in the win. David Hughes had two hits and two RBI while Jordan Whitlatch also tallied two hits.
The Hawks move to 32-18 on the year after today's victory. They will have to beat Emmanuel twice tomorrow at 2:00p.m. in the Championship game to win this year's title. The two teams faced off earlier in the season on March 11th. Chowan swept the doubleheader with scores of 11-1 and 9-0. Emmanuel, the #4 seeded team in the tournament, beat #1 Southern Wesleyan University and #3 Palm Beach Atlantic to advance to the Championship game unbeaten.
