MONTREAT, NC - The softball team split a doubleheader with Montreat College this afternoon, moving them to 4-6 on the year. The Hawks won game one of the doubleheader 3-1 but dropped the second game 3-2.

Chowan hit the road late yesterday afternoon for a six game weekend road trip. Their first stop today was Montreat while tomorrow they head to Mars Hill College for another doubleheader. They will head North to Sweetbriar, VA to play Sweetbriar College on Sunday before returning home late Sunday night.

Chowan tallied four hits as a team in the 3-1 first game win. Jenna Lassiter was 2-3 at the plate with one run scored and one RBI. Shellie Wimpey pitched a complete game, scattering six hits and striking out 10 batters.

Wimpey suffered the loss on the mound in the nightcap after giving up a two-run homerun in the 5th inning. That homerun tied the game at 2-2 with MC going on to score in the following inning to take the eventual 3-2 win. Wimpey struck out five and gave up seven hits. Lassiter paced the Hawks offensively in game two as well with two hits in three at-bats. Krystle Thomas was 2-4 with a triple and a run scored.
