Chowan University Athletics

Donald “Donnie” Ray Matthews played football for Chowan College and was an “All-American” halfback who holds a Chowan record of 1005 yards rushing in nine-ball games and who was named “Junior College player of the year” in 1964.

Matthews then went on to the University of Richmond and was a starting halfback.
