Meet the Head Coach

Patrick Mashuda enters his sixth season at the helm of the women’s basketball program at Chowan. Since taking over the program in 2004 Mashuda has accumulated a 68-70 overall coaching record and has taken his team to the NCCAA South Region Tournament in three of his first five seasons as head coach.

Mashuda comes to Chowan by way of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where he attended Mars High School. Upon graduation from Mars he went to Butler County Community College in Butler, PA where he played golf and basketball. He received an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration and went on to Robert Morris University in December of 1992, where he was a two-year member of the golf team.

Mashuda got his start in coaching at LaRoche College (PA) where he spent seven years as an assistant men’s basketball coach. In his last three years at LaRoche he had additional duties as an admissions counselor for the college. From LaRoche Mashuda traveled to Penn State-Behrend where he worked as an assistant men’s basketball coach, head men’s and women’s golf coach, and assistant facility manager. While at PSU-Behrend, Mashuda helped the Lions to two ECAC South Region Tournament appearances and a 32-21 overall record.

Mashuda spent 2003-2004 enrolled in graduate school at Slippery Rock University (PA) where he received his MS in Sport Management. He spent one year at Duquesne University (PA) as an intern with the athletic department, assisting with NCAA compliance, to fulfill his graduation requirements.

In his first season as head coach of the Hawks Mashuda guided his team to a 19-10 overall record, a runner-up NCCAA South Region finish, while also earning a berth to the NCCAA Nationals in Frankfurt, Kentucky. The team also saw two players earn NCCAA All South Region honors and one player earn NCCAA All America honors. In his second season the squad finished 14-10 overall and saw two players earn NCCAA All South Region Team honors. In his third season the team finished 14-15 overall and saw two players earn NCCAA All South Region honors and one NCCAA All American. The following season posted a 10-20 overall record. Forward AJ O'Banion was named the school's 2008 Female Athlete of the Year while also garnering NCCAA All South Region and ALL ICAA honors. Last season, the team improved to 11-15 overall while winning their last five games including going undefeated in the month of February (4-0).
