The event is set for Thursday, August 19th at 6:00pm on the upper athletic practice fields on the campus of Chowan University.  ESPN's Talkin' Sports' Gattis Hodges will be on hand for a live remote show. He will interview coaches and players and preview the upcoming sports seasons at Chowan. All four of CU's fall sports teams will offer free mini-clinics and games to all participants. Christopher White, took time out of his schedule on Monday afternoon to meet with two of Chowan's head coaches and an athletic department administrator in recognition of three CIAA accomplishments during the 2009-10 academic year. Head Volleyball Coach Peter Green and Head Softball Coach Mandi Balduf were presented with a hand carved, olive wood Hawk from one of Dr. White's recent trips to Israel. White presented the Hawks to the coaches in recognition for bringing home the school's first CIAA conference championships in each of their respective sports. The department hosted the event in conjunction with the CU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and recognized more than 100 student-athletes for both their academic and athletic achievements on their respective fields of play. Senior Jaleel Nelson (basketball) and junior Mindy Byrd (softball) were named this year's Athletes of the Year while CJ Westler (football) and Kristy Brown (women's soccer) were winners of the Dr. M.
