MURFREESBORO - The Chowan University Department of Athletics announced plans today for the 3rd Annual Fall Sports Community Night. The event is set for Thursday, August 19th at 6:00pm on the upper athletic practice fields on the campus of Chowan University. ESPN's Talkin' Sports' Gattis Hodges will be on hand for a live remote show. He will interview coaches and players and preview the upcoming sports seasons at Chowan. All four of CU's fall sports teams will offer free mini-clinics and games to all participants. Christopher White, took time out of his schedule on Monday afternoon to meet with two of Chowan's head coaches and an athletic department administrator in recognition of three CIAA accomplishments during the 2009-10 academic year. Head Volleyball Coach Peter Green and Head Softball Coach Mandi Balduf were presented with a hand carved, olive wood Hawk from one of Dr. White's recent trips to Israel. White presented the Hawks to the coaches in recognition for bringing home the school's first CIAA conference championships in each of their respective sports. HAMPTON, VA – Twenty student-athletes representing ten of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association’s (CIAA) eleven member schools have been named to the 13th Annual CIAA Commissioner’s All-Academic Team. This year’s team defines the total NCAA DII student-athlete experience with each member excelling on their respective playing fields and courts as well as in their classrooms and communities. MURFREESBORO - The Chowan University Department of Athletics welcomed more than 250 student-athletes to Thomas Cafeteria on main campus for the annual Student-Athlete Recognition Banquet on Wednesday night. The department hosted the event in conjunction with the CU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and recognized more than 100 student-athletes for both their academic and athletic achievements on their respective fields of play. Senior Jaleel Nelson (basketball) and junior Mindy Byrd (softball) were named this year's Athletes of the Year while CJ Westler (football) and Kristy Brown (women's soccer) were winners of the Dr. M.
