MURFREESBORO - First year skipper Peter Green announced today the 2008 playing schedule for volleyball. This year's schedule features twenty-six play dates and 33 matches, including the 2nd Annual Janet Collins Invitational at the start of the season.

The 2nd Annual Janet Collins Invitational will feature Allen University, Saint Pauls College, Peace College, and Roanoke Bible College. Play is set to begin Friday, August 29th and continue through Saturday, August 31st. Outside of the Collins Inviational, the Hawks will host ten home matches this season with a five-match home stand October 3rd-October 11th. Making trips to the Helms Center for the home stand will be North Greenville University, Virginia State University, Saint Augustines College, Shaw University, and Virginia Union University.

The Hawks have a tough road schedule this season as they will be participating in the University of Charleston Tournament September 5-6th and at tri-matches at North Greenville and UNC-Pembroke.

Chowan is coming off the most successful volleyball season in program history after turning in a 26-11 overall record, including going 14-4 at home. Returning to help lead the way for Chowan in 2008 are sophomores Nichole Shoup (pictured above, middle in blue libero jersey) and Antoinette McCollough. Shoup led the NCAA DII ranks in aces per game last season and was awarded a plaque by the NCAA in April at the CU Student-Athlete Recognition Ceremony. McCollough led the team in hitting last season and was named All ICAA Freshman of the Year.
